Tata Electronics is planning to significantly increase its workforce at the iPhone assembly plant located in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The company intends to hire an additional 20,000 employees, which will effectively double the current workforce to a total of 40,000 employees. This announcement was made during the groundbreaking event for Tata Motors and JLR’s new Rs 9,000 crore manufacturing plant in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu.
The Tata Group, which already employs over 150,000 people across Tamil Nadu through its subsidiaries such as TCS, Titan, and Tata Power, is continuing to strengthen its presence in the region. At the Hosur facility, more than 15,000 of the existing 20,000 employees are women, and the workforce is expected to double within a year, offering more employment opportunities in the area.
This expansion is anticipated to create not only direct jobs at the plant but also generate indirect employment across Tata’s ecosystem. Additionally, Tata Motors and JLR will collaborate on a new vehicle platform at the Panapakkam plant, which is projected to create 5,000 direct jobs and additional employment opportunities through related industries.
The Tata Group has also committed Rs 2,200 crore to upgrade the state’s industrial training institutes, aiming to equip local youth with the necessary skills to support the growing manufacturing sector.
