As part of its expansion plans in India, Apple is set to open four new retail stores in Pune, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, and Bengaluru. The company intends to fill a total of 400 positions, both part-time and full-time, at these locations. This means that each store will hire at least 90 people, with a preference for fresh graduates.
Last year, Apple inaugurated two stores in India—one in Mumbai and one in Delhi. These stores performed exceptionally well, generating approximately Rs 800 crore in revenue, with Delhi accounting for 60 percent of the total sales.
In August, Apple announced its shift in production from China to India, stating that it would produce its iPhone Pro models in India until March 2025. This move is expected to create a total of 600,000 jobs, including 200,000 direct jobs, of which 70 percent will be filled by women. Additionally, each of these direct jobs is anticipated to generate three indirect jobs. Apple’s diversification of production from China to India is promising for the country’s economy.
Currently, Apple employs over 150,000 people through its vendors and suppliers. A significant portion of these workers is employed by Tata Electronics, which operates two Apple plants. As of April 2024, it was reported that Apple’s exports from India had surged to an impressive $12.1 billion for the fiscal year 2023-24.
