American technology and e-commerce behemoth has announced that the company is freezing new hiring in its corporate workforce sighting due to uncertainty in the global economy.
As per the WSJ report, the company will be moving to redeploy staff from certain teams to more profitable areas and closing teams in areas such as robotics and retail.
“We anticipate keeping this pause in place for the next few months, and will continue to monitor what we’re seeing in the economy and the business to adjust as we think makes sense,” Beth Galetti, senior vice-president of People Experience and Technology at Amazon had said in a blog post.
“In general, depending on the business or area of the company, we will hire backfills to replace employees who move on to new opportunities, and there are some targeted places where we will continue to hire people incrementally,” She noted.
One of the Amazon Employees Jamie Zhang, a software engineer at Amazon Robotics AI, posted on LinkedIn and informed that he and his entire robotics team has been laid off. “My 1.5yrs tenure at Amazon Robotics AI came to an end in a surprising layoff (our entire robotics team was gone!),” wrote Zhang.
Amazon is reviewing its unprofitable units and units with slow growth. As per the reports by Daily Mail, Amazon’s Alexa business has recorded an operating loss of more than $ 5 billion a year. The team consists of more than 10,000 employees.
