Employee Resigns Job after Boss denies sick leave without Doctor’s note

An employee quit his job after his boss asked him to provide a doctor’s note to prove he was genuinely sick. A screenshot of their conversation on WhatsApp went viral on Reddit.

The employee told his boss that he couldn’t come to work because he had a fever and body aches. The boss refused to grant him leave unless he could provide a doctor’s note. The employee explained that he couldn’t afford to see a doctor for minor illnesses like a fever since the company didn’t cover the cost.

The boss insisted that the employee needed to provide a doctor’s note to take leave. He also suggested that if it was just a fever, the employee could come to work instead of staying at home. The boss said that the employee’s earnings depended on how much work he did and his presence at the workplace.

The employee became frustrated and rudely responded to the boss. He said, “OK bud have fun sitting in the break room all day playing on your phone. I’m out.”

The exchange sparked mixed reactions and received over 6,000 upvotes. Some people argued that low hourly wages make it not worth it for employees to work while sick. Others said that considering the current pandemic, employers should discourage sick workers from coming to work to avoid spreading illness.
