Godrej Consumer Products will be able to establish a manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government. The new facility will create 400 new jobs in the state.
The move is part of GVPL’s strategy to provide easy access to key markets in the southern region. The facility, which will be built in Thiruporur Taluk, Chengalpattu District, close to Chennai in Tamil Nadu, will improve manufacturing capabilities and contribute significantly to the company’s overall production capacity. It will serve as a central manufacturing hub for many well-known brands and products, including Cinthol, Godrej Expert Rich Crème, Godrej Selfie Shampoo Hair Colour, and Goodknight.
The facility will be outfitted with energy-efficient technologies and waste-reduction strategies, as well as solar roof panels, zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems, and practises aimed at eliminating landfill waste. To achieve a positive water balance, the company plans to implement water-saving techniques and rainwater harvesting. That is, in addition to increasing market presence, the unit will promote long-term development in Tamil Nadu.
The facility will encourage a diverse and gender-balanced workforce. The goal of GCPL is for women to make up 50% of the workforce at this facility. There will also be 5% representation from the LGBTQ and people with disabilities (PWD) communities.
