The placement season 2022-2023 at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay saw 1,516 students secure job offers. This is a new high. While 16 students were offered salaries in excess of Rs 1 crore per year, the highest domestic salary package offered was Rs 1.68 crore per year, and the highest international salary package was Rs 3.67 crore per year. Three hundred pre-placement offers were made, with 194 of them being accepted. Around 65 students have accepted job offers from international companies.
Participants from the computer science department received the most offers (228). While 214 electrical engineering students received offers, 78 aerospace engineering students received offers. There were 26 offers from the applied statistics and informatics department, and 33 from the biosciences and bioengineering department. Around 129 civil engineering students received job offers, and 191 mechanical engineering students received offers as well.
384 companies participated in the drive, with 324 making job offers. Students accepted 194 of the 300 pre-placement offers that were made. The average salary package offered this time was Rs 21.82 lakhs per year.
The placement drive was held in a hybrid mode, which included both offline and online components, with 2,174 students registering and 1,845 actually participating.
The Institute made headlines a few weeks ago when it received an anonymous Rs 160 crore donation. The donation was also well timed, as the Institute has been operating on a shoestring budget recently.
