Kerala Govt launches Athidhi Portal for registration migrant workers

Kerala is taking proactive steps to address recent allegations of migrant workers committing sexual crimes against children. The state is launching the Athidhi portal, a user-friendly web platform aimed at streamlining the registration process for migrant workers, as a solution-oriented approach.

The primary goal of the Athidhi portal is to expedite the registration of ‘guest workers’ and ensure that no one is overlooked. Officials are even considering establishing help desks at railway stations to help the large number of guest workers arriving in the state with the registration process.

The portal provides a comprehensive and all-inclusive solution, making it simple for contractors, employers, and individual workers to register. The enrolling officer will carefully review the information entered in the portal before issuing a unique ID to each worker.

Furthermore, the portal will serve as a centralised platform for collecting and managing information about workers, ensuring that they have access to critical social security benefits.

This action demonstrates the government’s dedication to the safety and well-being of all residents, including migrant workers. The state intends to make the environment safer and more inclusive by leveraging technology and innovative solutions.

The Athidhi portal, which is set to go live statewide on August 7, represents a significant step forward in addressing migrant worker safety concerns.

Kerala’s proactive approach is demonstrated further by efforts to identify and enrol all unregistered workers in the Awas health insurance scheme.
