The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has partnered with HCLTech to close the skills gap among Indian youth. This collaboration aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mission to equip Indian youth with AI and digital knowledge.
The agreement was signed by Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO of NSDC, and C Vijayakumar, CEO and MD of HCLTech. This collaboration comes on the heels of the recent G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) meeting, which resulted in agreement on digital skilling, digital economy, and digital public infrastructure.
NSDC and HCLTech’s collaboration aims to transform digital assessments in both tech and non-tech courses for both businesses and individuals. The two organisations will collaborate to develop new products and programmes to provide talent with flexibility and scalability.
The assessment market is expected to exceed $10 billion by 2027, with North America accounting for roughly 40% of revenue in 2021. The growth of the assessment services market is aided by Europe’s role in global employability and employment rates. The APAC market is expected to grow at the fastest rate during the forecast period.
The agreement calls for NSDC and HCLTech to collaborate in areas such as assessment platforms, hiring tests (both technical and non-technical), smart labs (focused on coding and data science), learning programmes, faculty development, certification programmes, and advisory services for governments and institutions.
Tiwari lauded the collaboration, emphasising their commitment to fostering trust in job markets. Both organisations will develop an assessment platform for students and professionals to certify in-demand skills, shifting hiring away from qualifications and towards skills. They will also provide online reskilling and upskilling courses to help employees prepare for a changing job market.
HCLTech and NSDC are collaborating to improve digital skills and education solutions, such as joint assessments, advisory services, and technological solutions. This collaboration aims to build a talent ecosystem for the future. The Career Shaper platforms from HCLTech and the expertise of NSDC will be invaluable in this endeavour.
HCLTech’s corporate vice president and global head of EdTech business, Srimathi Shivashankar, is confident that the collaboration with NSDC will help “to build a future-ready talent ecosystem using digital technology,” and that “HCLTech’s Career Shaper platforms and NSDC’s talent-building experience will revolutionise technology-driven skilling.”
The educational technology business of HCLTech assists governments, businesses, and educational institutions in the establishment of technology and talent skill academies. Under the Ministry of Skill Development, the National Skills Development Council (NSDC) promotes digital skills through technology integration, providing extensive digital content and industry-specific skill development programmes.
