The company fired a 22-year-old female software engineer for not coming to the office. Frustrated by this, the married man committed suicide. The woman, who is eight months pregnant, was asked to work from the office, but due to health reasons, she requested to work from home. But the company terminated her contract after she refused to work from the office.
The woman’s name is Nakkala Shravani and she was a native of Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. She was working in a software company based in Chennai. Two years ago, she got married to a pharmacist named Sanjeev.
According to the police, Shravani was working from home due to the Kovid-19 protocol. But her company recently changed its work-from-home policy and asked all employees to report to the office regularly. Shravani had requested to work from home, but was allegedly refused.
Shravani was upset about losing her job. She had been missing for two days. On Tuesday night, the local police of her village recovered her decomposed body from a nearby lake. Her family does not suspect foul play.
The tech industry is currently going through a tough phase. Several major tech companies, including Meta, Amazon and Twitter, have laid off thousands of employees in the past few months. It is said that Shravani ended her life out of this fear.
