Zomato sparks outrage after withdrawing a 1.6 crore job offer to IIT Delhi students

The food-delivery company Zomato has made headlines by offering a hefty Rs 1.6 crore salary for the position of algorithm engineer at the IIT Delhi campus during the upcoming placement season, which begins next month.

When Zomato abruptly withdrawn the offer, the initial excitement turned to confusion. Hrithik Talwar, an IIT Delhi research intern, claimed on social media that Zomato came to campus, created excitement with a lucrative job offer, and then revoked it.

Talwar posted a screenshot instructing students who applied for the position of algorithms engineer at Zomato to withdraw their applications.

Throughout the social media debate, Zomato has made no comments or issued a statement regarding the contentious withdrawal of the job offer.

Furthermore, the job posting was shared on multiple social media platforms, where students and users expressed a mix of surprise and curiosity. Some questioned the job offer’s legitimacy, wondering if Zomato had indeed presented such a lucrative opportunity, while others speculated that it could be a strategic marketing move by the food-delivery company.

When the social-media post was updated with another notification, it revealed that Zomato had quickly withdrawn its initial job offer due to company constraints. The notice instructed students to withdraw their applications, which caused confusion on campus. This unexpected development elicited a variety of reactions online, with some users speculating that it was a Zomato marketing stunt. Others expressed sympathy for the students, criticising the company for raising hopes only to dash them.
