The British appliance manufacturer Dyson is laying off roughly 1,000 employees in the UK. This implies that a quarter of its 3,500 employees, who work in offices in Bristol, Wiltshire, and London, will be let go.
About 15,000 people work for the company worldwide, which has been producing hair dryers, air purifiers, hoover cleaners and other equipment since 1991. Around 10,000 of these are employed outside of the UK. The process of looking through their workforces for layoffs is also underway at other places. The final number of workers to be let go worldwide is unknown.
According to media reports, this restructuring is the result of intense rivalry and the rapid pace of technological advancements, particularly in Asia. CEO of Dyson Hanno Kirner described the decision to reduce staff as difficult but necessary as part of the adjustments intended for the organization’s improvement. Nonetheless, the corporation has promised to support affected parties during the changeover. It’s interesting to note that Dyson relocated its corporate headquarters from Asia to Singapore in 2019 in order to improve focus and streamline operations. In 2013, it has already opened a production facility in Singapore.
Remarkably, the business has been doing rather well financially. In 2023, it reported record revenues of £7.1 billion ($9.1 billion), significantly higher than the £6.5 billion it reported the year before.
