Tata Technologies is planning on expanding its iPhone assembly hub located in Koothanapalli, Tamil Nadu. As part of its ambitious strategy, the company aims to increase its workforce from 20,000 to 55,000 – a remarkable 175% increase. While media reports suggest Tata Technologies will hire about 35,000 new employees, the company has not yet confirmed this figure. Nevertheless, with a steadfast focus on operational expansion and increased production, the company is poised to meet the growing demand for iPhones in India and beyond.
In addition to expanding its workforce, Tata Technologies is also in discussions with Pegatron, a Taiwan-based Apple contract manufacturer, regarding the potential acquisition of Pegatron’s facility near Chennai. This acquisition would further enhance Tata Technologies’ iPhone manufacturing capabilities.
Tata Technologies recently established 4.0 Skilling Centres in Telangana to provide skill development training to students. These Industry 4.0 technology centres offer job-oriented training and reportedly cost the company at least Rs 1,500 crore. The goal of these centres is to introduce modern technology and courses in the industrial training institutes (ITIs) across the state, so that the youth become more employable in the rapidly changing tech landscape. The courses offered at the Tata Technologies centres will include industrial automation, electric vehicle (EV) mechanics, robotics manufacturing, advanced CNC machine technology, basic designing and more at the ITIs.
This collaboration between Tata Technologies and the Telangana government has benefited about one lakh students.
