The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) reported that it added 1.64 million new members in April based on the payroll data released by the Ministry of Labour and Employment on Wednesday, 19 June. Among the new additions, 784,000 were young employees under the age of 25, which accounts for about 47.60% of the total registrations.
In addition, approximately 18,490 new establishments joined ESIC’s social security scheme, expanding coverage to more workers. A gender analysis of the data showed that 338,000 of the new enrolments were women, and 53 transgender employees also registered under the ESI scheme.
This record demonstrates significant job generation for the nation’s youth and reflects ESIC’s commitment to providing benefits to every section of society. In comparison, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) added 1.44 million net members in March, with a total of 747,000 new members.
