Instagram has announced a new workplace policy requiring all US-based employees to return to the office five days a week. Meta confirmed the change on Monday, 1 December 2025. The mandate will take effect on 2 February 2026 and represents a significant shift from the company’s earlier hybrid approach.
The updated requirement applies exclusively to Instagram employees and does not extend to other Meta platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp. Meta previously implemented a three-day-per-week office policy for its global workforce in September 2023, aligning with hybrid models adopted across the tech industry.
According to internal communication shared by Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, the move toward a fully in-office structure is aimed at improving creativity, collaboration and operational speed. Mosseri also referenced plans for a broader cultural reset, including reducing the number of meetings and encouraging teams to focus on creating product prototypes instead of preparing extensive written presentations. The goal, he said, is to support faster experimentation and clearer decision-making.
Instagram’s updated workplace mandate comes at a time when several major companies are reinforcing traditional office-based work models. The decision positions Instagram among organisations that are moving away from hybrid arrangements and returning to full in-person operations.
