Infosys has introduced a revised work model that increases the emphasis on in-office attendance while retaining limited flexibility, reflecting a broader shift underway across India’s IT services industry as companies reassess post-pandemic work arrangements.
Under the updated framework, most employees are now required to work from an Infosys office for at least 10 days each month. While hybrid working continues, the scope for remote work has been more clearly defined. Work-from-home days are capped at five days per quarter, with any requirement beyond this limit subject to prior approval from the reporting manager and intended only for exceptional circumstances.
The new policy also places greater responsibility on managers to oversee attendance planning. Employees are expected to seek approvals in advance rather than rely on informal arrangements, signalling tighter monitoring and clearer accountability around work patterns.
The changes reflect the company’s view that prolonged remote work can affect collaboration, learning and execution, particularly in large teams and complex delivery environments. Increased physical presence is seen as important for mentoring, quicker decision-making and team cohesion. Similar policy adjustments by other large IT services firms point to a sector-wide move toward more structured and predictable hybrid work models.
In addition to attendance requirements, Infosys has introduced a sustainability-related measure linked to remote working. Employees working from home will be required to share monthly information related to household electricity consumption and energy usage practices. The data is intended to support the company’s assessment of the environmental impact of remote work arrangements.
Employee reactions to the revised framework have been mixed. Some have welcomed the clarity around expectations, while others have expressed concern over reduced flexibility. Overall, the update highlights a growing preference among IT services companies for hybrid work structures that are more closely aligned with operational efficiency and delivery priorities.
