More than 100 Google employees gathered outside the company’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, to call for stronger job security measures and enhanced protections against layoffs.
During the demonstration, representatives of the employee union submitted a petition signed by approximately 4,500 workers to CEO Sundar Pichai and other senior executives. The petition urges the company to introduce policies aimed at improving employment stability.
According to the organisers, employees are seeking enhanced layoff protections, including guaranteed severance packages, the removal of performance-based ranking quotas and the option to receive severance in the form of extended paid leave.
The demonstration comes as technology companies continue to restructure operations while increasing investments in artificial intelligence. Organisers said stronger job security measures could support collaboration, innovation and long-term productivity.
The protest also reflects broader concerns among some technology sector employees regarding job stability, organisational restructuring and workplace practices. In recent years, workers across the industry have raised questions about layoff policies, performance management systems and communication during workforce reductions.
As of publication, Google had not publicly responded to the employees’ demands.
