Vedanta Aluminium, India’s leading producer of aluminium, has announced that it is making significant progress towards achieving its target of 30% female representation in its workforce by the end of FY25. This is five years ahead of its original target date of 2030. Currently, women comprise 22% of the company’s employees, which is noteworthy in the metals and mining industry where women are typically underrepresented.

Vedanta Aluminium is committed to expanding opportunities for women, including night shifts, and fostering a culture of inclusivity. The company implements gender-neutral hiring practices, progressive workplace policies, and world-class amenities, making it an attractive employer for women seeking diverse and fulfilling careers. As a result, there has been a significant increase in female professionals joining Vedanta Aluminium across various core functions, including smelting, mining, power generation, and finance.

Recognising the need for a more inclusive workforce, John Slaven, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, emphasised the importance of diversity and inclusion in the manufacturing industry. He stated that empowering women professionals is critical for better decision-making and catering to diverse markets while providing superior customer service.

Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to equal opportunity is reflected in its progressive policies, such as spouse hiring programs, year-long childcare leave, and flexible work arrangements. The company’s “Shree Shakti” initiative allows women to participate in night shifts. Employees also enjoy world-class townships with modern amenities, including schools, healthcare facilities, daycare centres, and recreational facilities, creating a supportive environment for families.

The company’s commitment extends beyond its existing workforce. Through “Project Panchhi,” Vedanta Aluminium is transforming the lives of 1,000 young girls from marginalised communities across rural India. This initiative provides financial support for their higher education and guarantees job opportunities upon successful completion.

Vedanta Aluminium, a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited, is India’s largest aluminium producer, contributing over half of the country’s total aluminium production. The company is a leader in value-added aluminium products and ranks first in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2023 for the aluminium industry, reflecting its commitment to sustainable development practices. Vedanta Aluminium is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce while driving sustainable solutions for the future.
