Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) to create wider career opportunities for veterans, military spouses, and war widows. The initiative is designed to ease the transition from military to civilian life through recruitment pathways, training, and career development programmes.
Under the agreement, Amazon will share relevant job openings with AWPO, which supports ex-servicemen, spouses, and war widows. The company will also conduct webinars and workshops to familiarise candidates with available roles and growth opportunities within the organisation.
Deepti Varma, vice president – people experience and technology, Amazon Stores India, Japan and emerging markets, said the partnership underscores Amazon’s commitment to diversity. “Veterans and military spouses bring mission focus, resilience, and leadership qualities that strongly align with Amazon’s culture. This collaboration strengthens our efforts to help them transition into meaningful careers,” she noted.
The AWPO welcomed the move as a milestone in supporting service personnel and their families. Amazon India has already onboarded hundreds of veterans and offers tailored initiatives such as interview preparation, mentorship through its Warriors at Amazon network, and career advancement pathways.
The partnership also aligns with Amazon’s global initiatives, including the Military Hiring Programme and Military Spouse Fellowship, both aimed at ensuring career continuity for the military community. By extending opportunities to spouses and war widows, Amazon India reinforces its goal of building an inclusive workplace for underrepresented groups.
