Amazon has introduced a new internal system that provides managers and HR leaders with detailed insights into employee office attendance, marking a significant step in enforcing its return-to-office policy. The tool, quietly rolled out over the past month, leverages badge-swipe data to track how often employees come to the office, how long they stay, and whether they are at their assigned locations.
The dashboard updates daily and monitors behaviour across an eight-week rolling period, allowing leaders to spot patterns rather than isolated visits. Previously, managers relied on fragmented reports and informal check-ins, but the new system consolidates attendance information in a single, accessible platform. Employees are categorised based on office presence, including labels for low usage, no recorded visits, or frequent attendance at incorrect locations, giving managers clear visibility into deviations from company expectations.
This rollout follows Amazon’s 2025 decision to mandate one of the strictest return-to-office policies in the tech sector, requiring most corporate employees to work onsite five days a week. While the policy set clear expectations, enforcement had been inconsistent due to limited monitoring.
The introduction of this detailed tracking tool reflects a broader trend among large organisations: using technology to manage hybrid and in-office work more closely, shifting from trust-based approaches to data-driven oversight.
This move signals Amazon’s commitment to ensuring office attendance compliance as it continues to navigate the challenges of hybrid work culture.
