Amid pilot concerns, Akasa Air reiterates its employee-centric approach

Akasa Air has underlined its commitment to being an employee-centric business, while also addressing concerns made by some pilots about training and safety. The airline, which has been in operation for more than two and a half years, says that safety is still its top concern.

This follows complaints from a group of its pilots, who requested an independent investigation of the airline’s management policies, training techniques, and safety standards.

With a fleet of 26 aircraft, Akasa Air employs over 4,300 people, including approximately 800 pilots. The airline prioritises ongoing improvement in its safety methods, procedures, and training.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently issued at least two show-cause notices to Akasa Air for particular violations. However, the airline has denied charges of safety and training deficiencies, calling them false.

Akasa Air claims that its crew is quite satisfied, citing positive comments from employees, particularly pilots. The corporation reports an annualised attrition rate of less than 1% among pilots, citing its employee-focused initiatives.

The airline is not currently employing more pilots, claiming a sufficient number of people to support its expected growth. Data analytics and regular employee surveys are used to monitor and increase satisfaction levels even further.

Since October 2023, Akasa Air has hired 324 new pilots, bolstering its talent pool. The airline covers 27 destinations, including five international cities, and had a 4.5% domestic market share as of October.

Akasa Air’s leadership emphasises the need of actively seeking and acting on employee feedback in order to foster a positive workplace culture. Despite recent pilot concerns, the airline is confident in its ability to maintain safety and staff happiness as it grows.
