Apple is on a hiring spree and may employ over 6 lakh people in India by March 2025

Apple, the iPhone manufacturer, is relocating its production from China to India. The company will be manufacturing its iPhone Pro models in India until March 2025, creating a total of 600,000 jobs. Of these jobs, 200,000 will be direct employment opportunities, with women comprising 70 percent of the workforce.

This move is expected to have a positive impact on the Indian economy, as each direct job is projected to create three indirect jobs. Apple’s decision to diversify its production to India is likely to benefit the country significantly. Additionally, Apple already has more than 150,000 people working for its vendors and suppliers in India, with Tata Electronics employing the majority of these workers in its two Apple plants.

Apple’s focus on increasing production in India has already seen significant results, with its exports from India reaching $12.1 billion in FY 2023-24, up from $6.27 billion in the previous financial year. Currently, Apple manufactures approximately 14 percent of its iPhones in India, and this percentage is expected to increase to 25 percent in the near future as Apple continues to expand its presence in the country.

Furthermore, Apple has announced plans to build over 78,000 housing units, with Tamil Nadu expected to receive the largest share of 58,000 units. This initiative is especially beneficial for women migrant workers, many of whom are in the 19-24 age bracket.
