Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is expanding its shift towards an AI-led operating model by rolling out a structured, organisation-wide programme to build practical artificial intelligence (AI) skills across its workforce. The initiative aims to ensure that AI capabilities are embedded across roles, functions and business units, rather than being confined to specialised teams. According to the company, the focus is on helping employees move beyond basic awareness to applying AI tools and models in real business and client scenarios. Training under the programme is designed around real-world use cases, enabling employees to address operational and customer challenges using AI-driven solutions.…
A US entrepreneur has drawn international attention after sharing a substantial portion of his company’s sale proceeds with employees, turning a corporate acquisition into a significant financial event for hundreds of workers. Graham Walker, former chief executive of electrical equipment enclosure manufacturer Fibrebond, distributed bonuses totalling nearly ₹2,155 crore ($240 million) to around 540 employees following the sale of the company to Eaton Corporation earlier this year. The transaction valued Fibrebond at approximately ₹15,265 crore ($1.7 billion). According to reports, Fibrebond employees did not hold equity in the company. Despite this, Walker made employee participation in the financial outcome a…
A recent government audit using Aadhaar-linked data has uncovered widespread irregularities in public-sector payrolls, with close to 7,000 individuals reportedly drawing salaries without performing any official duties. The findings have highlighted persistent gaps in employee verification and salary monitoring across several government departments. The audit was conducted as part of a broader initiative to clean up government employment records and prevent misuse of public funds. Officials involved in the exercise identified cases of salaries being credited to non-existent employees, duplicate identities, and multiple bank accounts linked to the same individual. In many instances, outdated records and weak oversight mechanisms allowed…
Tesla is reportedly evaluating a new incentive framework aimed at preparing its workforce for future robotaxi operations, signalling a deeper organisational shift toward autonomous mobility services. The proposed plan focuses on encouraging existing employees to participate in robotaxi-related training and operational activities, potentially supported by additional compensation or performance-linked rewards. If implemented, the initiative would allow Tesla to integrate traditional job roles with emerging responsibilities related to autonomous vehicle monitoring and support. Rather than depending entirely on external hiring, the company appears to be prioritising the upskilling of its current workforce to facilitate a gradual transition from human-driven vehicles to…
Amazon has reportedly blocked around 1,800 North Korean nationals from applying for jobs at the company, citing serious security risks linked to cyber infiltration. The decision follows warnings from Stephen Schmidt, Amazon’s chief security officer, about attempts by North Korean hackers to gain access to US companies by posing as remote employees. According to media reports, these individuals often use fake or stolen identities and operate through what are known as “laptop farms.” Laptop farms consist of computers physically located in the US but remotely controlled from outside the country, creating the impression that the employee is working domestically. Indicators…
Air India Express has constituted an external enquiry panel to investigate an incident in which one of its pilots allegedly assaulted a passenger at Terminal 1 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport last week. The airline has strongly condemned the pilot’s behaviour. The pilot, identified as Virender Sejwal, was off duty at the time of the incident and was travelling on another airline. He was immediately suspended, and a show-cause notice was issued seeking an explanation for his conduct. According to the airline, the enquiry will be conducted in accordance with prevailing labour laws, as pilots are classified as workmen…
Apple continues to diversify its manufacturing operations beyond China, with India emerging as a key production hub. In addition to its established facilities in Tamil Nadu, the company’s new manufacturing unit at Devanahalli near Bengaluru has already hired around 30,000 employees within eight to nine months of operations. According to reports, nearly 80 per cent of the workforce at the Devanahalli facility comprises women, most of them in the 19–24 age group. Spread across 300 acres, the campus is expected to grow further and may eventually surpass Apple’s Tamil Nadu facilities in both size and workforce strength. The plant is…
McKinsey & Co is preparing to reduce its global workforce over the next two years as part of a broader effort to manage costs amid slower revenue growth and changing client demand. The move comes even as the consulting firm marks its 100th year in operation. According to people familiar with the matter, McKinsey is considering cutting about 10 per cent of roles in non-client-facing functions. The reductions are expected to be implemented gradually over the next 18 to 24 months and could affect several thousand employees worldwide. The planned cuts are focused on support and internal roles, rather than…
Ford Motor Company is set to lay off around 1,600 employees at its BlueOval SK battery manufacturing facility in Hardin County, Kentucky, as the automaker recalibrates its electric vehicle (EV) strategy and pivots toward energy storage technologies. The job cuts will affect the BlueOval SK plant in Glendale, a joint venture that was originally positioned as a cornerstone of Ford’s EV expansion in the United States. Local officials have confirmed that the layoffs are part of a transition phase at the facility. County authorities are working with Ford and state agencies to support impacted workers and connect them with re-employment…
The Indian government has rolled out a major reform of labour protections aimed at improving working conditions for professionals in the audio-visual sector. The move seeks to enhance wages, safety standards, and job security for workers across film, television, digital media, and related creative fields. The reforms stem from the consolidation of 29 existing labour laws into four Labour Codes, a shift that holds particular importance for the rapidly growing audio-visual industry. The sector has seen significant expansion in recent years due to the rise of OTT platforms, digital content creation, dubbing services, and high-risk stunt-based productions. One of the…
