By 30 November 2024, employers can complete the activation process of the Universal Account Number (UAN) via Aadhaar-based OTP for all employees who joined during the current fiscal year. After that, they should extend the same process to their remaining employees.
This initiative will provide employees with easy and seamless access to online services offered by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) 24/7. Employees will be able to manage their Provident Fund (PF) accounts efficiently from anywhere without needing to visit a physical EPFO office. They will have the capability to view and download their PF passbooks, withdraw claims online, update information, and track claims in real time.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment aims to benefit the maximum number of employers and employees through the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme announced in the Union Budget for 2024-25. Consequently, the EPFO has been tasked with ensuring that employees’ Universal Account Numbers are activated. To facilitate this process, the EPFO will collaborate with its zonal and regional offices. The UAN is a 12-digit code provided by the EPFO to individuals participating in the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).
The government’s delivery processes will become simpler and more efficient through the use of Aadhaar as a proof of identity, eliminating the need for beneficiaries to submit multiple identity documents. This change will enhance transparency and efficiency, ensuring beneficiaries receive their entitlements seamlessly.
To activate the UAN, an Aadhaar-based One-Time Password (OTP) will be required. Employees can visit the EPFO Member Portal, click on the ‘Activate UAN’ link, and follow the instructions provided to complete the activation process.
The Central Government has instructed all ministries and departments to ensure that subsidies and incentives for welfare scheme beneficiaries are disbursed through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge. Orders have been issued to guarantee 100 percent biometric Aadhaar authentication.
