The German Cabinet has approved several measures to facilitate the employment of Indian talent and skilled workers in Germany. Many of these initiatives focus on attracting Indian workers who may be discouraged by the requirement to know the German language. To address this, the German government plans to offer German language classes to Indian workers interested in relocating to Germany.
Additionally, there are plans to digitize the visa process by December 2024 to make migration more convenient. Steps have already been taken to reduce the visa processing time for Indians from nine months to just 14 days.
The Federal Labour Office is also looking to proactively assist Indian college students who are studying in Germany.
According to Schengen.News, while Germany’s economy is performing well, it is facing challenges due to an aging population and a shortage of skilled workers. This issue is becoming increasingly pressing, which is why the country is heavily relying on Indian talent in various professions.
The number of Indians working in Germany has quadrupled over the past decade. In 2015, data from the labor ministry indicated that there were about 23,000 Indians in Germany, and that number has since increased to over 137,000, marking a significant jump.
In August, it was reported that Germany issued an impressive 80,000 work visas during the first half of 2024. Half of these visas were granted to skilled workers, reflecting an increase of 3,000 from the same period the previous year.
