Lenovo has announced a fresh round of layoffs in the United States, reducing its workforce by approximately 3% as part of a broader strategic restructuring initiative. The move impacts more than 100 employees and reflects the company’s efforts to realign operations in response to evolving market dynamics.
Headquartered in both Beijing and Morrisville, North Carolina, Lenovo maintains a strong presence in the US, especially in the North Carolina Research Triangle. While the company has not specified how many local employees are affected, the layoffs are understood to be part of larger organisational shifts aimed at streamlining North American operations.
The decision comes as Lenovo sharpens its focus on emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. The company recently announced ambitious plans to develop AI-powered PCs and infrastructure, signaling a pivot toward what CEO Yuanqing Yang has called the “AI decade.”
This restructuring follows a familiar pattern. Lenovo has previously implemented workforce reductions in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022—each aligned with internal realignments or shifts in business priorities. Despite a strong Q4 showing, with a 21% year-over-year revenue increase, the job cuts underscore the tech industry’s ongoing volatility, where innovation and layoffs often occur in parallel.
Lenovo joins a growing list of global tech firms that are recalibrating their teams in 2025 to navigate economic uncertainties while investing in next-generation technologies. While the restructuring reflects future-focused ambitions, it also highlights the human impact of transformation in a rapidly changing industry.
