Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has announced plans to invest approximately $11 billion over five years to establish a one-gigawatt AI data centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project will be developed through a joint venture, Digital Connexion, in partnership with Canadian multinational Brookfield and American real-estate investment trust Digital Realty.
The initiative aims to generate employment, promote innovation, and attract global technology investment to the region. The AI-native data centre campus will be spread across 400 acres of land.
The investment comes shortly after Google revealed plans to invest $15 billion over five years in a large AI-driven data centre in Visakhapatnam, marking its biggest investment outside the United States. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has also reportedly proposed a $2.5 billion investment in data centres across India, including a facility in Visakhapatnam.
With multiple global and domestic players investing in the city, Visakhapatnam is emerging as a key hub for AI and data-centre infrastructure in India.
