Zomato is taking a major step to enhance rider safety by introducing mandatory responsible driving training for its delivery partners and distributing over 2,000 BIS-certified helmets during National Road Safety Month.
The training, spanning 1.5 to 2 hours, is led by traffic police and certified professionals, focusing on safe urban navigation, maintaining proper following distances, and anticipating road risks. Participants are also trained in the ‘Golden Hour’ protocol—the critical first hour after an accident where timely first aid can save lives—along with basic emergency response skills.
Structured hands-on sessions will be conducted across multiple cities, including Chandigarh, Bangalore, Chennai, and Pune, at Traffic Training Parks to simulate real-world hazards in a controlled environment. Riders will also learn about helmet maintenance, the importance of BIS-certified chin straps, helmet lifespan, and adherence to traffic rules. The first phase of training took place in Delhi in collaboration with the Delhi Traffic Police, accompanied by a bike rally promoting responsible riding.
“Delivery partners are the backbone of our business, and their safety and wellbeing continue to be a top priority,” said Aditya Mangla, CEO of Zomato. “Through this initiative, we aim to empower delivery partners with practical knowledge and skills to make better decisions and respond effectively in critical situations.”
Zomato already mandates safety briefings before deliveries, emphasizes helmet usage and road discipline, and reinforces a daily safety pledge. Delivery partners also receive real-time weather alerts, precautionary notifications, and 24×7 access to an in-app SOS feature for rapid ambulance support. All delivery partners are covered under comprehensive insurance, underscoring the company’s commitment to their safety and wellbeing.
