Seattle: Amazon is set to permanently eliminate 121 jobs across Washington state, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing submitted to the Washington State Employment Security Department on August 31, 2026.
The layoffs are scheduled to begin on October 1 and continue through October 27. The filing indicates that 32 employees are expected to leave by October 2, while another 66 separations are scheduled by October 20.
The affected positions are spread across Bellevue, Seattle, Sumner and one remote position in Washington. The filing lists 49 jobs in Bellevue, 35 in Seattle, 32 in Sumner and one remote employee.
Corporate and logistics roles affected
The latest reductions span several functions, including software development, scientific roles, administrative positions, service technicians and associate-level jobs.
The inclusion of Sumner, where Amazon operates fulfilment facilities, indicates that the latest cuts are not limited to corporate and technology offices.
Amazon said the layoffs are not related to, and are not expected to lead to, an overall relocation or outsourcing of its Washington operations.
The company has also said Rapid Response teams will provide support to employees affected by the workforce reduction and assist them during the transition.
Fourth Amazon WARN filing in Washington this year
The latest notice is reportedly Amazon’s fourth WARN filing in Washington in 2026.
The company previously announced larger workforce reductions in the state. In October 2025, Amazon filed notices affecting approximately 2,303 employees as part of a broader corporate workforce reduction involving about 14,000 positions globally.
In January 2026, another filing covered approximately 2,198 positions, including 626 jobs in Bellevue. A further filing in July involved 57 technology workers.
With the latest 121 positions included, reported Washington job reductions linked to these rounds have now exceeded 4,600.
Layoffs come despite strong Amazon results
The latest workforce reduction comes despite strong financial results reported by Amazon.
For the second quarter of 2026, Amazon reported net sales of $200.6 billion, representing 20% growth, while revenue from Amazon Web Services (AWS) increased 37% to $42.2 billion.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has been pushing the company toward a leaner operating structure while increasing the use of artificial intelligence across its businesses.
The workforce changes reflect the company’s broader effort to improve efficiency and reorganise roles as technology and AI increasingly influence how work is performed.
India operations not impacted
The latest Washington WARN filing does not indicate job cuts affecting Amazon employees in India.
India remains an important operational and technology hub for Amazon, with teams supporting areas including software development and engineering, AWS, customer service, logistics and other core business functions.
While previous restructuring efforts have affected multiple Amazon businesses and regions, the latest round of announced Washington layoffs is geographically limited to the United States.
For now, Amazon’s India workforce is not affected by this latest Washington state job reduction.
