Reliance Industries is encouraging employees to consider participating in the proposed initial public offering (IPO) of Jio Platforms, according to a Bloomberg report. The offering is expected to be a major public listing for the digital services business, with eligible employees and shareholders set to receive access through reserved investor categories.
The report states that Reliance released October salaries earlier than usual, approximately 15 days ahead of the regular schedule. However, the company has not publicly confirmed whether the early salary payment was connected to the IPO.
Reliance has also reportedly checked whether employees and their family members have demat accounts, which are required to apply for shares in an IPO. According to people familiar with the matter cited in the report, employees without such accounts have been encouraged to open them. Reliance had not immediately commented on the reported outreach.
Bloomberg data cited in the report put Reliance Industries’ workforce at 419,911 employees, making it one of India’s largest employers among listed companies. Of these, 74,822 employees worked at Jio, according to information available on the company’s website.
Under the reported IPO structure, eligible Jio employees can apply through the employee reservation category. Employees of other Reliance group companies may participate through the retail investor category, subject to the applicable eligibility requirements. Eligible shareholders of Reliance Industries will also have access to a separate reserved portion of the offering.
According to the details provided, Jio Platforms plans to raise approximately ₹30,213 crore through the IPO, with a proposed price band of ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share. Company filings reportedly provide for shares worth up to ₹500 crore to be reserved for eligible employees, with a 5% discount on the offer price. A separate allocation worth up to ₹2,500 crore has been earmarked for eligible Reliance Industries shareholders.
The proposed IPO is scheduled to open for subscription on 21 October and close on 23 October 2026, according to the reported details. The listing would mark an important milestone for Reliance’s digital services business and provide eligible employees and shareholders with an opportunity to participate in the offering.
For HR leaders, the reported initiative highlights how employee communication and access to share offerings can intersect during major corporate events. However, participation in an IPO remains an individual investment decision, and employees should review the official offer documents and eligibility conditions before applying.
