Cloud productivity software company ClickUp is introducing a new approach to employee compensation and performance evaluation as artificial intelligence continues to reshape the workplace.
In a recent statement, Zeb Evans said that traditional measures of productivity and employee value may become less relevant in AI-enabled organizations. Instead, the company plans to place greater emphasis on the impact employees create through the effective use of AI tools and technologies.
As part of this strategy, ClickUp is introducing compensation bands that can reach up to $1 million annually for employees who deliver exceptional business outcomes by leveraging AI. The approach shifts focus away from conventional factors such as tenure, job titles, or organizational hierarchy and toward measurable results and value creation.
According to Evans, employees who can effectively manage AI systems, coordinate intelligent agents, and redesign workflows to improve efficiency may become increasingly valuable in future workplaces. The company believes that AI can significantly expand the productivity and influence of individual contributors.
The CEO also noted that traditional distinctions between functions such as engineering, design, and product management are becoming less defined as AI enables more cross-functional ways of working. At the same time, new roles focused on overseeing, directing, and optimizing AI systems are beginning to emerge.
The broader philosophy reflects a growing trend among organizations exploring how AI may change workforce management. Rather than evaluating employees primarily on effort or time spent, companies may increasingly focus on outcomes, adaptability, innovation, and the ability to combine human expertise with AI capabilities.
Despite the rapid adoption of AI technologies, Evans emphasized that skills involving human relationships, trust-building, communication, and customer engagement are expected to remain important in the evolving workplace.
The announcement highlights ongoing discussions across the technology sector about how AI could influence compensation models, job design, and talent management in the years ahead.
