Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek is preparing to significantly expand its workforce as it scales its operations amid reports of a major fundraising round expected to support its next phase of growth.
The Hangzhou-based company has announced plans to at least double the size of every department, with hiring expected to focus primarily on engineering, research and other technical roles. The recruitment drive is intended to strengthen the company’s AI research capabilities, product development and infrastructure as competition in the global AI market continues to intensify.
The expansion comes as DeepSeek is reportedly close to completing a funding round valued at approximately 50 billion yuan (around $7 billion). If finalised, the investment would rank among the largest fundraising rounds for a Chinese AI startup and provide capital to accelerate technology development and business expansion.
In a statement shared through its official WeChat account, the company said it is increasing headcount across departments to support rapid technological progress and meet future business requirements.
DeepSeek has gained prominence over the past year through the development of its large language models and AI applications, positioning itself as one of China’s fastest-growing AI companies. The planned recruitment initiative reflects its ambition to strengthen its position in an increasingly competitive market alongside other domestic AI developers and international technology firms.
The hiring announcement also highlights the continued demand for specialised AI professionals despite broader hiring moderation across parts of the technology sector. Companies investing in artificial intelligence remain focused on recruiting machine learning engineers, AI researchers, software developers and infrastructure specialists capable of building and deploying advanced AI systems.
Industry observers note that strategic hiring has become a priority for AI-focused companies, even as many organisations maintain tighter control over recruitment in non-core business functions. Access to experienced technical talent is increasingly viewed as a key competitive advantage in the race to develop next-generation AI technologies.
With additional funding expected to strengthen its financial position, DeepSeek is preparing to expand its workforce and accelerate innovation as it pursues long-term growth in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence industry.
