Aja Consulting Services has launched a new employee initiative aimed at encouraging greener commuting habits by offering financial incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs).
As part of what the company calls its “Green Workplace Movement,” employees will receive Rs 10,000 toward the purchase of an electric four-wheeler and Rs 5,000 for buying an electric two-wheeler. The company has also introduced a separate incentive programme to encourage carpooling among employees during daily commutes.
The initiative reflects a growing trend among private companies to expand sustainability efforts beyond office operations and infrastructure. While many organisations focus on measures such as installing EV charging stations or conducting awareness campaigns, Aja Consulting Services is directly supporting employees’ vehicle purchasing decisions through financial assistance.
The move comes at a time when upfront purchase costs continue to be one of the primary barriers to wider EV adoption. Although electric vehicles generally offer lower operating and maintenance expenses over time, many buyers still compare their higher initial prices with petrol-powered alternatives.
In the two-wheeler segment, electric scooters in India commonly range from around Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.3 lakh, while comparable petrol scooters are often priced between Rs 75,000 and Rs 95,000. Employer-supported incentives may help narrow the perceived cost gap and influence purchase decisions when combined with lower running costs, home charging convenience and available state subsidies.
The company’s carpooling initiative is also aimed at reducing fuel consumption and traffic congestion associated with individual commuting patterns. Together, EV incentives and shared commuting options offer relatively low-cost strategies for companies seeking to support sustainability goals without major infrastructure investments.
In urban centres such as Hyderabad, where many commuters travel between 20 and 40 kilometres daily, the long-term economics of electric mobility are becoming increasingly attractive as fuel prices remain elevated.
