Jabil Inc Rs. 2000 crore plant to create 5000 jobs in Trichy

Jabil, a supplier for Apple, is planning to establish an electronics manufacturing facility in Trichy, involving an investment of approximately Rs. 2000 crore. This initiative is expected to create job opportunities for 5,000 individuals in Tiruchirapalli. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been reportedly signed between representatives of Jabil and a delegation from Tamil Nadu in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who is currently in the US.

Tamil Nadu is already home to other Apple suppliers including Foxconn, Pegatron, Tata Electronics, and Corning, each of whom operate plants within the state. Jabil also supplies to Cisco, HP, and other prominent companies. With this investment, Trichy will join the list of electronics facilities in Tamil Nadu, alongside Hosur and Sriperumbudur.

Jabil’s decision to invest in the Trichy plant aligns with Apple’s gradual shift of manufacturing operations away from China. On a separate note, Rockwell Automation is also investing Rs 666 crore in Kanchipuram, with plans to provide employment for around 365 locals.

Additionally, an agreement has been reached with Autodesk to provide training to young individuals and to offer essential support to MSMEs and startups in Tamil Nadu. Earlier, in April 2024, Rockwell had announced its intentions to establish a manufacturing facility in Chennai, India, aimed at strengthening their supply chain in the Asia Pacific region and globally. Chennai is an appealing destination for investors due to its proximity to the port and the availability of skilled talent.
