Tata Chemicals Mithapur has launched Suraksha Gurukul, a dedicated safety training centre designed to strengthen workplace safety skills among employees, contractors, visitors and drivers at its facility.
The centre has been developed over a two-year period and combines classroom-based learning with digital training, practical demonstrations, simulations and competency assessments.
The programme is designed to give workers an opportunity to understand workplace hazards and practise appropriate responses in a controlled environment before encountering similar situations during operations.
Driving Simulators for Safety Training
One of the centre’s key features is its vehicle-driving simulation facility. Drivers can practise different road and workplace scenarios before operating vehicles within the site’s operational areas.
The training covers areas including driving techniques, hazard recognition and defensive driving.
VR-Based Workplace Safety Learning
Suraksha Gurukul also uses virtual reality (VR) to provide immersive training on areas such as working at height, fire safety and emergency preparedness.
The Mithapur plant and its operations have been digitally recreated for the training programme. This enables employees and other participants to experience simulated situations that closely reflect their actual working environment.
Safety Exhibition Gallery
The centre includes a Safety Exhibition Gallery featuring safety equipment, demonstrations, training material and examples of workplace safety practices.
The overall learning programme combines classroom and digital sessions with practical exercises, driving simulations and VR-based training. Participants subsequently undergo assessments and certification.
Part of Tata Chemicals’ Zero Harm Programme
Suraksha Gurukul was inaugurated by Vikrant Deoras, Site & Manufacturing Head, Tata Chemicals Mithapur, in the presence of senior leaders, department heads and employees.
The facility was developed with support from the site’s Safety, Civil, Electrical and Plant teams.
The initiative forms part of Tata Chemicals Mithapur’s wider Zero Harm programme, with the company using practical and technology-enabled training to strengthen safety competencies across its workforce and partner ecosystem.
By allowing workers to practise safety procedures and respond to simulated workplace situations before facing them in real operations, the centre is intended to support a more proactive approach to workplace safety.
