Data labellers and programmers are now being added to Uber Technologies’ gig workforce because the company does not want to limit itself to rideshare but wants to foray into the market of artificial intelligence (AI) development outsourcing.
According to this proposal, Uber Technologies will now hire gig workers for data labelling and offer AI model training and data labelling services to clients/businesses. As a result, its new company, Scaled Solutions, is expanding the number of gig workers to include independent contractors such as programmers and data labellers. To fulfil the demands of Scaled Solutions, Uber has already begun collaborating with contractors with diverse capabilities in India, the United States, Canada, Poland, and Nicaragua. The organisation is looking for professional programmers with language skills and cultural knowledge. These independent contractors will be compensated for each job or work completed.
Two clients, Aurora Innovation and Niantic, have already requested their assistance.
While Aurora Innovation creates self-driving software for commercial trucks, Niantic is a game developer best known for Pokemon Go. Uber contractors will help Aurora Innovation’s self-driving algorithms accurately categorise roadside objects. Niantic plans to leverage Uber services to examine location data for its 3D map project for augmented reality (AR) games.
In addition to data tagging, Scaled Solutions will use local contractors’ skills to culturally adjust products. It will rely on programmers to improve AI chatbots and pay freelancers to evaluate what advanced AI language models produce.
