Unilever is realigning marketing responsibilities throughout Asia, to layoff workers in Singapore

Unilever is planning to cut jobs in its marketing teams for personal care brands such as Dove, Lux, and Lifebuoy in Singapore. The company announced the layoffs to affected employees before Christmas in December 2023.

Unilever has decided to move certain personal care positions from Singapore to the main markets in Asia to better meet consumers’ needs. While confirming the layoffs, the company stated that some roles would still remain in Singapore. However, the company did not specify the number of affected staff or disclose the countries where the marketing roles would be relocated.

Unilever expressed that it understands the impact this may have on the affected employees and is making every effort to support them during this period. Unilever shared plans for quicker growth in October 2023, giving brand leaders the freedom to decide their brand’s purpose.

In November 2023, the company announced that it was planning to lay off 169 workers from its New York warehouses as part of broader changes to how Unilever makes beauty and personal care products. Most of the job cuts will happen at the Amityville location, starting on 5 April 2024.

Unilever mentioned that affected workers can apply for positions at other company sites. They will receive help through job placement services and training programs, and the company will also assist with relocation if needed.
