SpaceX is in hot water after firing employees who spoke out against Elon Musk. A complaint was filed, accusing the company of violating workers’ rights and eavesdropping on their communications.
SpaceX has now been ordered to apologise to the fired employees and post a notice about worker rights for the next four months.
The National Labour Relations Board (NLRB) is investigating SpaceX after it was accused of wrongfully firing employees who wrote a letter criticising Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX. The letter was written by a group of employees during Musk’s takeover of Twitter, now known as X, and it expressed concern that Musk’s behaviour was distracting.
The NLRB claims that SpaceX violated federal rules by questioning employees about the letter, telling them not to discuss the interviews, and making them feel like they were constantly being watched.
According to the report, SpaceX went through employee messages, shared them, and attempted to prevent the open letter from being circulated. The company is also accused of pressuring employees to quit and threatening them with dismissal for participating in organised activities.
The NLRB wants SpaceX to post a worker rights notice for four months and apologise to the fired employees. Unless things are resolved before then, a hearing is scheduled for March 5, 2024. If the judge makes a decision, it can be appealed first to the board and then to a higher court.
