Israel wants 5,000 carers and 10,000 construction workers from India

Assessors from Israel’s Population, Immigration and Border Authority (PIBA) will be traveling to India soon to conduct skill tests. Why? Israel is facing a shortage of caregivers and construction workers and is seeking assistance from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to address this. Specifically, Israel is hoping that NSDC will help recruit 5,000 caregivers and 10,000 construction workers.

The recruitment drive for construction workers is scheduled to take place in Maharashtra by the end of September. This recruitment initiative in India is not unprecedented. In January 2024, a six-day skill-test program was held at Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) in Haryana, which received a significant response. These employment opportunities were advertised by the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN) in collaboration with NSDC.

Many prospective candidates had participated in workshops conducted by the Haryana government to learn about the wages, job duration, and other relevant details.

To date, approximately 5,000 Indian workers have been sent to Israel. Those selected are earning a monthly income of Rs 1.92 lakh along with a bonus of over Rs 16,000 per month. Additionally, they are entitled to food, lodging, and medical insurance. About 5,000 selected candidates have already migrated to Israel.

Candidates being sent through the government-to-government (G2G) arrangement will receive pre-departure training to familiarize them with Israeli culture, enabling them to adapt more easily.
